It also had the longest continuous monarchy until the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie in the \u201870s by the military.\u00a0 Ethiopia has a glorious past with a great civilization, one of a few countries with a written language (the Ge\u2019ez script) and a developed system of governance.\u00a0 The resilience and bravery of the Ethiopian people in resisting Italian campaigns to colonize it are often seen by many Africans as a catalyst that sowed the seeds of independence for their countries.\u00a0 The idea of a United Africa started in Ethiopia; hence, Africa\u2019s first parliament was established in Addis Ababa, the capital city.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/videoseries?list=PL97F423387908C8CE&amp;hl=en_US\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Toronto has one of the largest Ethiopian populations in Canada;\u00a0 there is already a large pool of talent within this community.Having interacted on many occasions with its leaders and artists. Batuki Music Society\u2019s Artistic Director proposed the idea to put together a musical collective to showcase the various traditions and cultures of Ethiopia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There will be an array of traditional and modern instruments displaying on a single stage for the first time in Canada the wealth of talent and energy from \u201cthe Horn of Plenty\u201d..
